is it beginning of the end of nadal's regime

just checked BBC and came across a very good piece of news. king federer has beaten nadal in straight sets and astonishingly on a clay court. although nadal has been getting federer most of the times since his early losses to him but often he just sneaked win from the jaws of the defeat.

i have been an ardent fan of support of federer throughout, the reason is he is such a calm and composed player and never shows off, plus his shots are skillful rather than power. another reason is that i never liked pete sampras and federer was the one to end his reign.

at the same time, if we look from entertainment point of view, their rivalary has benefited the support and these 2 players have produced one of the fiercely contested matches in the recent past। i am sure that this win will give federer lots of confidence in overcoming the barrier of not beating nadal in previous 15 or so matches. in the last year wimbledon, federer was close to beating nadal but nadal pulled it out from the skin of his teeth.

one of my friend told me that john macnroe offered federer advice on how to beat nadal. i have watched few of nadal and federer's recent matches and i feel the nadal was getting a psychological edge over federer. in the wimbledon final, nadal played like a super human, esp in the later parts of the match. there were 2 or 3 returns in the end games which virtually seemed impossible but nadal made them. that basically broke federer's will and susbsequently losing that match. i presume that king has sorted him out and would return to his no 1 status again.

lets hope that federer will be able to continue his good form to french open and then on to wimbledon. hail the king- federer.
